SPITTING AND LITTERING IN RAILWAY PREMISES.
●        Special Task Force for Strict vigil o­n spitting and cleanliness.
●        Special Campaign through print & electronic media to aware passengers and
               rail users about the new Indian Railways Rule-2012.
●        Rupees 2,12,410/- collected as fine.
          Enforcing the Gazette Notification of Indian Railways Rule-2012 for cleanliness in railway premises including trains and stations, East Coast Railway has taken a massive awareness campaign o­n spiting & littering and also imposed fine for the violations since December 16, 2012.
During the cleanliness and anti-spitting drive by East Coast Railway over it’s jurisdiction,3338 persons have been fined so far for spitting and littering at Railway premises recently. An amount of Rupees 2,12,410/- have also been collected as fine from the persons who have spitted and littered at Railway premises.
All the Sr. Divisional Commercial Managers of Divisions have been advised to depute Special Task Force, to stop spitting and littering in Railway premises and maintain cleanliness. A strict vigil o­n spitting and cleanliness drive at all the stations over East Coast Railway jurisdiction have been kept to aware the passengers and rail users about the cleanliness at railway premises. Station Managers, Ticket Collectors of Commercial Department or equivalent rank of Operating Department, Special Squard, RPF and officials have been authorized by Railway Administration to look in to this matter seriously and maintain cleanliness at Station premises and in trains. Instructions have also been given to the Station Managers to slap fine as per the rate fixed for various categories of Stations.
The Public Relations Department in association with the Commercial Department of East Coast Railway has taken an awareness campaign particularly o­n spitting and informing the public about the recent Indian Railway Rules-2012 through Posters, Banners, Display advertisements in different English, Hindi and vernacular language newspapers and also in different electronic media channels.
Spitting and littering entails a fine of Rs. 100/- at ‘A1’ Class Stations like Bhubaneswar, Puri and Visakhapatnam, Rs. 50/- at ‘A’ Class Stations like Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Khurda Road, Palasa, Rayagada, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram and Sambalpur and Rs. 30/- will be charged at rest of the stations under East Coast Railway jurisdiction. The fine may be doubled shortly in a view to stop spitting and littering.
In the new Rule 2012 of Indian Railways, no person shall throw or deposit litter in any occupied and unoccupied railway premises or the carriage in authorized places or cook, bath, spit, urinate, defecate, feed animals/birds, repair or wash vehicles, washing utensils/clothes or any other objects or keep any type of storage in any railway premises or paste and put up any posture or write and draw anything in any compartment, carriage of railways, premises thereof without any lawful authority or indulge in defacing railway property in station buildings, platforms, railway tracks and other property belonging to railways including trains shall be  punished and will be imposed with fine.
