229 PASSENGERS FOUND TRAVELLING ON TRANSFERRED TICKETS
67 TOUTS NABBED AT DELHI RAILWAY STATIONS

Northern Railways Vigilance in association with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Commercial department conducted a drive against touting activities, unauthorized travel agencies and travel on transferred tickets during the summer rush w.e.f. 10.03.2010 to 30.06.2010. During this period, 9 unauthorised travel agencies were raided and 9 agents along with their 3 staff were apprehended. All these 12 persons were arrested under section 143 of the Railways Act,1989. Similarly during this period, 32 checks were conducted to apprehend touts functioning in ticketing/reservation areas and 67 touts were apprehended. Out of these, 31 touts were arrested under section 143 of the Railways Act,1989 and 36 touts were arrested under section 144 of the Railways Act,1989. Besides, 13 ERCs were also detected having reserved tickets, filled requisition forms in their possession and also shortage/excess in their govt. Cash.
During the same period checks were also conducted against travel on transferred tickets as a result of which 229 passengers were detected travelling on tickets reserved in the name of other (fictitious) persons and an amount of Rs. 2,67,490/- was realized from them as Railway dues.
In addition to above, 125 other preventive checks were also conducted in PRS locations and 52 staff were detected having shortage/excess in govt./pvt. Cash.
Northern Railway reiterates its appeal to the general public not to travel on transferred tickets as undertaking journey unauthorizedly under otherĂ¢??s tickets is punishable under Section 142 of the Indian Railways Act.
