PATNA: An irate mob vandalized the AC chair car and disconnected hose pipes of the Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express (3331 Up) between Bansipur and Mananpur stations on the Kiul-Jhajha section of Danapur division under East Central Railway on Wednesday in protest against detention of a local person by the TTE during ticket checking drive.

The agitated mob paralyzed train movements completely for about two hours on this route. Normalcy was restored at 4.30 pm on this route following intervention of the district administration and RPF officials who rushed to the site from Jhajha and Kiul.

According to superintendent of railway police (SRP), Jamalpur, Gopal Prasad, the trouble started at 1.50 pm when an agitated mob came on railway tracks near Bansipur and forcibly stopped the train. The furious mob was demanding that the railways must hand over the TTE who detained the local person in this particular train on Tuesday.

They also pelted stones on the bogies of the train and damaged the AC chair car badly in the incident. However, none of the passengers were reported hurt in the incident, he said, adding timely arrival of armed forces on the spot saved the situation from taking an ugly turn.

According to railway sources, several pairs of passenger trains on both Up and Down lines remained stranded for a few hours due to blockade on tracks. The tracks were cleared around 4.30 pm by the police and stranded trains resumed their onward journey.
